Wort- und Bildmarke Sovereign Cloud Stack
Hello Abonnent!

I'd like to give you a brief insight into what we are currently working on in the Sovereign Cloud Stack environment – particularly with regard to our standards and certifications, which are increasingly making an impact in practice.

My name is Marvin, Standardization & Certification Engineer at the Forum SCS-Standards. Together with the community, we continuously develop our standards and ensure that certifications not only exist on paper, but deliver genuine added value for operators, integrators, and users.
One date you should mark in your calendar: On May 21st, our next Summit will take place. You can look forward to exciting insights into current developments, as well as the ceremonial award of further certifications – an important step in making commitment and implementation visible.
We have revised our certification for integrators and now offer a tiered model with multiple certificates – Certified SCS IaaS Integrator Bronze and Certified SCS IaaS Integrator Silver. With the new points system, we are creating more clarity and a smoother entry point for organizations that integrate and operate SCS-compliant infrastructures. If you are interested in standardization, certification, or practical implementation, the Summit is definitely worth a visit. :)
And now: Enjoy the following topics and insights!
Table of contents

Top Topic: SCS Summit 2026 – Programme Now Online

The SCS Summit is the central meeting point for everyone who not only wants to discuss digital sovereignty in cloud infrastructures, but actively drive it forward. This is where practice and strategy come together, experiences are shared, and new impulses for sovereign cloud solutions are set. As an annual fixture for the community, the Summit stands for openness, collaboration, and continuous development – across organizational boundaries.
The programme is now online and offers a wide range of exciting sessions, speakers, and topics from various areas around the Sovereign Cloud Stack – from technical deep dives to strategic perspectives.

🎟️ Secure your ticket and be there!

The Summit is open to everyone – whether you already have experience with SCS or are just getting started. Especially for newcomers, it offers the ideal setting to gain orientation, gather insights, and connect with the community."

Press Release: SCS in the Germany Stack

With the recent resolution of the IT Planning Council, the standards of the Sovereign Cloud Stack become a central building block of the so-called Germany Stack. FITKO has since published the corresponding resolutions.
A key aspect: public administration will increasingly rely on open, verifiable, and vendor-independent cloud technologies. The Open Source Business Alliance e.V. also highlights the positive development for the Sovereign Cloud Stack in the context of the Germany Stack in a press release.

KaaS in the Compliance Monitor

We are approaching the goal of officially offering certifications for Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS for short) as well. This requires, among other things, the ability to regularly test corresponding KaaS offerings for compliance and to publish the results transparently. With the integration of the scope SCS-compatible KaaS into the Compliance Monitor, this important step has now been taken – and the first KaaS offerings have already been incorporated.

SCS Connect in March

In March, SCS Connect took place on the topic of "Migration from VMware to OpenStack". Enrico Kern demonstrated how virtual machines can be migrated from VMware to OpenStack with minimal effort and downtime using open-source tools. Using a testbed setup, the migration process was demonstrated, typical pitfalls were highlighted, and necessary post-migration tasks – for example with Windows systems – were explained. The focus was on practical insights, lessons learned, and shared discussion around concrete implementation experiences.

New Version of the Integrator Certification

With the certifications Certified SCS IaaS Integrator Bronze and Certified SCS IaaS Integrator Silver, two new qualification levels are now available. They address organizations that implement and further develop cloud infrastructures based on SCS.
The focus is on a clear differentiation of experience and maturity levels: Bronze represents the solid entry level, while Silver targets advanced competencies and more comprehensive practical experience. This makes it visible what know-how and depth of implementation is present in projects.
