About SCS

Working together for digital sovereignty in the cloud

Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) is a European initiative that creates an open, transparent and vendor-neutral cloud ecosystem that guarantees sovereignty. The emphasis is on real freedom of choice. SCS is based on certifiable standards, a modular software stack and practical knowledge transfer.

Uniform standard for easy use, setup and operation.

Developed, supported and operated by a European open source community.

Decentralised, standardised and networked – for complete control over all data.

More trust and innovation with fewer dependencies – technically, economically and legally.

Our objectives

  • Promoting digital sovereignty in Europe
  • Technological independence
  • Establishment of a cloud infrastructure with maximum compatibility and interoperability

Who is Sovereign Cloud Stack relevant for?

  • SMEs, IT service providers and cloud providers
  • data centre operator
  • Public administrations
  • research institutions
  • Civil society and open source communities

The three pillars of SCS

Sovereign Cloud Stack defines clear rules for quality and interoperability – transparent, jointly developed and certifiable. This makes sovereign cloud solutions measurable and visible.

The certifiable SCS standards are developed openly, collaboratively and in line with requirements. In a continuous process, the community creates a reliable framework for secure cloud infrastructures.

The modular software stack provides open source implementations and thus shows how a sovereign cloud works in practice. The software stack is based on proven projects that have already been used to build certified environments, such as OpenStack and Kubernetes, is developed by the community and offers a turnkey basis for your own cloud infrastructures with the modules.

A clear central goal of SCS is to promote skills and knowledge. Open collaboration, documentation and exchange create a culture in which skills, experience and innovation are shared.
