We award the first Sovereign Cloud Stack certificates

Berlin, 24 September 2025 – At our Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) Summit Certificates were awarded for the first time to cloud companies that meet the high requirements of the SCS standards. The award ceremony on the big stage marks a decisive step towards an open, interoperable and sovereign cloud infrastructure in Europe.

With this certification, we recognise companies that demonstrate that cooperation is possible in a highly competitive market – and that jointly developed standards can result in sustainable, future-proof cloud solutions that benefit everyone. The award-winning companies represent a strong, committed community that is actively shaping Europe's path to digital sovereignty.

Certificates were awarded to providers whose cloud solutions are fully SCS-compliant („SCS-compatible Infrastructure-as-a-Service“) and to service providers who can professionally set up and operate cloud environments in accordance with these standards („Certified SCS Infrastructure-as-a-Service Integrator“).

Open standards for interoperability and freedom

The SCS standards form the basis for quality, transparency and interoperability in the cloud. They define comprehensible technical requirements that ensure that cloud services from different providers work together seamlessly.

This gives customers the certainty that they will not end up in a situation of dependency with an SCS-certified provider. Thanks to open interfaces and standardised protocols, they can migrate their services to another SCS-compatible provider at any time – quickly, securely and without technical hurdles.

This approach makes digital sovereignty a tangible reality: SCS users can decide for themselves on technology, location and partners – while remaining fully compatible with other offerings within the ecosystem.

Participatory further development by the community

A key factor in the success of the SCS is its participatory development process. The SCS Standards Forum ensures that standards and certification guidelines are continuously developed in an open, transparent exchange – tailored to real requirements and supported by the expertise of the community.

This combination of openness, co-creation and responsibility has led to remarkable technical maturity in recent years. Companies, public authorities and research institutes benefit from a reliable European framework for sovereign cloud infrastructures that creates long-term investment security.

Certifications at a glance

With the introduction of SCS certifications, we are creating a traceable quality feature for digital sovereignty. They document that cloud offerings and services have been developed, operated and tested based on SCS standards.

Certified SCS-compatible IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)

The „Certified SCS-compatible IaaS“ certification confirms that a cloud infrastructure complies with the Infrastructure as a Service-Standards of the SCS. These include specifications for virtual machines, storage, networks and other core components that enable secure, efficient and open cloud operation.

The following companies have been awarded the „SCS-compatible IaaS v5.1“ certificate:

Certified SCS IaaS Integrator

Service providers with this award have demonstrated that they can build and operate Infrastructure-as-a-Service environments in accordance with SCS standards – with in-depth expertise, established processes and proven professional competence.

The following companies were awarded the title of „Certified SCS IaaS Integrator“:

A growing ecosystem of sovereign cloud solutions

The initial awarding of certificates shows that SCS has established itself as a stable and recognised basis for digital sovereignty. The community is growing, with more and more companies joining and contributing to the further development of open standards.

Close cooperation between technology providers, integrators and users creates a vibrant ecosystem that promotes innovation, breaks down market barriers and, at the same time, meets high security and quality requirements.

This makes SCS not just a technical project, but a model for a new form of digital collaboration – open, transparent and collaborative.

Looking to the future: Kubernetes-as-a-Service certifications

Following the successful introduction of IaaS certifications, our focus is now on the next stage of development: Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS).

The „Certified SCS-compatible KaaS“ certificate will confirm that a Kubernetes service complies with SCS standards and enables secure, interoperable and cross-platform container orchestration.
In addition, the „Certified SCS KaaS Integrator“ certificate proves that an integrator can implement and operate KaaS environments in accordance with standards.

With these new certifications, we are creating additional transparency and trust – and strengthening the foundation for a European cloud infrastructure that is open, secure and sustainable.

Conclusion: Collaboration as the key to digital sovereignty

With the awarding of the first SCS certificates, we are celebrating not only a milestone in the project, but also the success of collaborative work. The award-winning companies demonstrate the strength of the European open source community – and how much can be achieved when knowledge, experience and commitment are shared.

The Sovereign Cloud Stack Today, it stands for active cooperation, technical excellence and a clear vision: digital sovereignty through open standards. Together with our partners, members and the community, we will continue to pursue this path – for a strong, independent and innovative cloud landscape in Europe.
